The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is responsible for providing leadership oversight of medical and related activities to ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe, and efficient care. Under the administration of the Chief Executive Officer, the CMO is responsible for all medical policies, directives, rules, regulations, and clinical performance standards of the state, federal government, and accrediting bodies and serves as the organization's ultimate authority on medical topics.

The CMO is accountable for and provides professional leadership and direction to the utilization/cost management and clinical quality management functions. They work collaboratively with other functions that interface with medical management such as provider relations, member services, benefits, and claims management. Additionally, the CMO assists in short- and long-range strategic planning, accreditation and regulatory functions, total quality management, and external community relationships.

Essential Functions:

  • Active member of the executive leadership team supporting strategic vision and overall direction for medical practices and patient care.
  • Collaborate with other executive team members to develop strategic plans and initiatives for the organization.
  • Collaborate with the executive and medical leadership team in developing services and program plans.
  • Functions as the executive medical liaison within the medical community and the community at large, building effective relationships with referring physicians and healthcare systems.
  • Provide leadership and support to the medical team, ensuring the highest standards of medical practice.
  • Develop and implement medical policies, procedures, and protocols to improve patient outcomes and maintain compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Provide medical oversight and guidance in the development and implementation of new medical services and programs in delivering high-quality patient care, ensuring adherence to evidence-based practices.
  • Ensure the organization's compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Monitors and analyzes relevant data to identify trends, issues, and areas of concern, and develop targeted interventions and initiatives to address them.
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in patient care and safety, working with healthcare facility administrators, medical staff, and other stakeholders to identify best practices and implement evidence-based solutions.

·Education Qualifications: 

·        Current and clear medical licensure, Psychiatrist in any US state required.

Professional Qualifications:

  • BC/BE in General Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology is strongly preferred. 
  • 10+ years of director-level leadership experience required.
  • 10+ years' experience as a CMO (or equivalent) in a large, complex hospital or regional health system preferred.
  • Experience working with the eating disorder population is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with case management, patient bed management, or patient experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in inpatient, residential, and lower level of care settings, preferred.
  • Progressive experience as a physician leader or physician executive
  • Ability to blend medical knowledge and experience with business knowledge and experience to create unique strategies for the organization.
  • A “hands-on” leadership style with the ability to model and reinforce a strong collaborative style.
  • Ability to quickly establish credibility and rapport with all levels of the organization.
  • Works with others in a collaborative and solutions-focused manner to achieve win-win outcomes.
  • Results-focused - understands what is important to leaders, employees, and clients.
  • Capable communication skills; handles complex and difficult situations with thought and confidence.
  • Displays integrity; is sincere in own behavior and in dealings with others.
