To further our mission, we are searching for a Development and Communications Manager. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our community. You will work alongside the Executive Director and leadership team to support our philanthropic and communications initiatives. The Development and Communications Manager will support all aspects of the organization’s fundraising, communications, and marketing initiatives.  Lexington Children’s Museum seeks an enthusiastic and creative person with strong managerial, organizational and communication skills that promotes awareness of the organization’s mission and forms strong relationships with external stakeholders. 


You will play a pivotal role in fostering relationships, securing funding, and enhancing the museum's visibility and brand through strategic communications. You will work closely with the museum's leadership team to develop and implement strategies aimed at maximizing philanthropic support, community engagement, and public awareness.


Duties and Responsibilities 
.Fundraising and Development 

  • Execute the annual fundraising plan with the Executive Director to meet revenue goals, including individual giving, corporate sponsorships, grants, special events, and campaign giving.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with donors, donor prospects, past donors, sponsors, and grant-making organizations to secure support for the museum's present and future initiatives.
  • Identify new funding opportunities and implement new development strategies to attract and engage new donors, diversify revenue streams, and support the museum's growth.
  • Plan and coordinate LCM’s annual fundraising event.
  • Coordinate third-party fund-raising activities/events and giving days to engage the community.
  • Management and oversight of donor database.
  • Execute the LCM stewardship plan.
  • Prepare and coordinate donor appeals, grant submissions and report materials..

.Communications & Marketing

  • In partnership with the Executive Director and LCM Marketing Committee, develop and implement a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy to increase the museum's visibility and reach within the community.
  • Develop and implement strategic and innovative marketing and promotion plans to drive attendance, membership, and revenue growth.
  • Lead the creation of compelling and impactful content that communicates the organization's mission and impact through various communication channels, including website, social media, email newsletters, press releases, and marketing materials.
  • Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communication channels and materials, maintaining the museum's identity and reputation.
  • Maintain email lists and utilize email tools to develop data driven email campaigns.
  • Update online community calendars with programs and events as needed.
  • Cultivate relationships with media outlets, influencers, and community partners to secure coverage and partnerships. 
  • Engage with community stakeholders, including educators, families, volunteers, and partner organizations, to build support for the museum's programs and initiatives.
  • Represent the museum at community events, conferences, and networking opportunities to promote awareness and foster collaborations.
  • Participate in required all-staff activities, discussions, meetings, and training, and support museum staffing during high peak seasons and events.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to develop compelling content that engages audiences to increase their understanding of LCM’s mission and purpose.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with all Museum departments, community partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and work on various projects and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, arts administration, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in marketing and communications or development, preferably at a non-profit
  • Strong commitment to the Museum mission and vision.
  • Driver's license and unlimited access to a reliable automobile.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekend events...

 Compensation and Benefits:.

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance (LCM pays 100% of employee only plan).
  • Three weeks paid vacation (Accrued).
  • 120 hours of paid sick leave (Accrued).
  • Free downtown parking.
  • Starting salary range $40,000 - $45,000.
