Description
ABOUT SWING LEFT
Swing Left’s mission is simple: we make it easy for people to maximize their impact on the most competitive elections to help Democrats win. Since launching in 2017, Swing Left’s one million members have raised more than $140 million for Democratic candidates, civic organizations, and voter mobilization efforts, and engaged more than 50 million voters door-to-door, by phone, and through handwritten letters. What makes us different:
- Swing Left is singularly focused on directing grassroots time and money to help Democrats win close races that will determine the balance of power in our government, from the White House to key state houses.
- We use data and technology to increase volunteer and donor impact by driving the right resources to the right campaigns, at the right time.
- We put people first, delivering a member experience focused on strategic action, not noise—no spam emails, texts, or doomsday messaging.
JOB SUMMARY
This role is focused on Ground Truth, Swing Left’s people-powered organizing program designed to help Democrats win back power by reimagining how we talk with voters. Traditional voter contact often focuses on likely Democratic voters and starts too late to meaningfully persuade people who are undecided or disengaged. Ground Truth is built to change that.
The Voter Contact Director will lead the execution of Ground Truth voter contact strategy and tactics — owning the systems and cross-functional collaboration that drive programmatic priorities — and manage four Ground Truth organizers. The right person for this role is an experienced organizer who believes deeply in the power of grassroots volunteers. They are energized by innovation, adaptable, and can maintain a big-picture view of priorities while tracking the details.
This role reports to the Head of Program.
NOTE: This is a full-time, cycle-based position that will end on December 31, 2026. This is a primarily remote role, with occasional in-person responsibilities that may require travel. The role also requires regular evening and weekend work to support volunteer engagement.
Voter Contact Program Execution
- Own the delivery of Ground Truth voter contact tactics, including canvassing, phone banking, and volunteer-hosted grassroots fundraising events.
- Directly manage four full-time Ground Truth organizers.
- Partner with the head of program on voter contact program strategy and tactic development, including the development of voter contact script variants.
- Work directly with external partners to develop, maintain, and improve systems that support voter contact tactics.
- Lead implementation of the pilot fundraising house party program in collaboration with the head of program and senior organizing director; oversee volunteer intake, support, and follow-up processes managed by organizers.
- Build and manage systems and workflows to streamline cross-team coordination around voter contact programs; collaborate cross-functionally to align Ground Truth program execution with broader organizational priorities.
- Manage list creation for organization-led and volunteer-led Ground Truth phone banks.
- Help manage turf planning and tracking in coordination with the program team; adapt processes as new tools and systems are developed in collaboration with the technology team.
- Maintain and manage program tools, including Mobilize, EveryAction, the People App, Asana, and Lightdash.
- Track and report on program outcomes and progress against goals to internal and external stakeholders
Recruitment Planning and Coordination
- Build and maintain a recruitment calendar to drive the recruitment planning process across all Ground Truth voter contact tactics — canvassing, phone banking, and grassroots fundraising events.
- Manage list prioritization and creation for volunteer recruitment phone calls and texts.
- Partner with political, marketing, program, and other teams to identify and orchestrate recruitment opportunities and ensure priorities are reflected in external communications.
- Monitor RSVP status and recruitment health across all tactics and direct organizer priorities accordingly.
