Description
JOB SUMMARY
Oversees the district’s risk management, safety, and health compliance programs. Directs all insurance portfolios, including property, liability, workers’ compensation, unemployment, and student accident programs, to protect human, physical, and financial assets.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Program Strategy: Develops and implements district-wide risk management policies, safety programs, and loss-control techniques.
Insurance & Claims: Reviews loss exposures; prepares specifications, evaluates bids, and purchases insurance coverage. Serves as the primary point of contact for claims and certificates of insurance.
Compliance & Safety: Acts as the liaison for municipal/state code enforcement (fire, life, safety). Analyzes regulatory changes, ensures OSHA compliance, and coordinates safety training.
Workers’ Compensation: Manages the district's workers’ compensation program, including case files, claims tracking, and light-duty/return-to-work coordination.
Financial & Legal Leadership: Prepares and manages the Risk Management division budget. Represents the district in litigation or quasi-judicial hearings.
Consultation: Provides technical expertise to principals, staff, and parents to resolve safety and risk issues.
Staff Management: Schedules, supervises, and evaluates division staff.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Expertise: Deep knowledge of risk management, loss control, and local/state/federal safety and workers' compensation laws.
Analytical Skills: Ability to investigate data, interpret complex regulations, and develop proactive risk-mitigation strategies.
Leadership: Proven capability to manage a large district-wide program, oversee budgets, and train/supervise personnel.
Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including attorneys, medical professionals, staff, and parents.
Efficiency: Ability to work independently, manage records via computer, and meet strict timelines.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Preferred: Master's Degree or Juris Doctorate (JD).
Preferred: Minimum of 5 years of experience in Risk Management, Legal, Insurance, or Safety, including 3 years in an administrative/managerial role.
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Insurance, Safety and Health, or a related field.
